Functionality of Each Building
Starting at a new campus can be anxiety inducing and overwhelming. Kutztown has a great deal of buildings that are often unfamiliar to incoming students, encompassing every need the students could have. Let’s be honest, I didn’t even know the purpose of most buildings until my later years. Outlined below is a list of buildings and their main functions.
The Academic Forum has classrooms as well as a food court, which includes Chick-fil-a, a crowd favorite. In addition, they contain the mail service center for outgoing mail, the one-card office, used to take ID pictures and replace lost ID’s, and the office for classroom technical support. Kutztown has an Admissions Office, used as a resource for potential students as well as current students. They assist students with finding a major that coincides with their interests.
Dixon Marketplace is attached to the south side of Dixon Hall, right near South Dining Hall. The store has clothing, classroom supplies, and some food products – mostly snack foods. Great for late night snacks and last minute items that you forgot that you needed!
The Health and Wellness Center, located inside Beck Hall, is the center for medical needs. Walk-in appointments are welcome! This is also where the campus counseling center is located, in which they provide free counseling to Kutztown students. The Kemp building is the Office of Human Resources. Most often students visit the Kemp building if they become a student employee, where paperwork and clearances are completed.
The McFarland Student Union is the hub of the campus. They have Starbucks, the cub café – a dining hall, and seating suited for hanging out or hosting meetings. The campus bookstore, located downstairs, has Kutztown apparel as well as textbooks among other interesting items. The MSU hosts movies in the alumni auditorium that students are welcome to watch for free. Rooms can be reserved for functions and meetings, and the information desk has answers for all of your questions!
The Multicultural center has associations such as the Black Student Union, where diversity is celebrated. Stop by to get involved and find your comfort zone on campus! Old Main is where you can find the offices for Housing, Dining, and Residential services, public safety, the GLBTQ Resource Center, Women’s Center, and the writing center. The Women’s Center and GLBTQ Resource Center are wonderful areas to volunteer or just hang out between classes. They are both a quiet environment perfect for completing homework in a comfortable area.
Schaeffer auditorium is where all musical, dance, and theatrical performances are held throughout the year. From concerts to drag shows, you’ll find them in the Schaeffer Auditorium! Stratton houses the office of student affairs, administration and finance, the bursar office, financial aid, disability services, as well as the career development center. The career development center will help review resume’s and assist students with finding jobs available in their area of study.
Don’t be afraid to ask other students or faculty where to go if you are having trouble. There is a directory on the Kutztown website that outlines the function of each building as well. Enjoy the school year!
